The idea of socialism really hasn't caught hold yet in the United States -- at least not in name. I agree, many of the things Democrats (and a surprising number of Republicans) do and think is truly socialistic, but the name isn't very palatable in the US as opposed to Europe. Give them a few years (maybe five or ten) and we'll start seeing open Socialists getting elected to government positions. I won't be too optimistic about our future when that happens.

By "they," I'll assume you mean socialists. The most basic principle of socialism is fairness, which in the political and economic sense means giving everyone precisely the same treatment, amount of money, etc. Free enterprise allows those who work to keep what they have earned, and punishes the lazy and unproductive by leaving them with little or nothing. The socialist mentality cannot stand up in the face of such logicality, so it attempts to negate logic with emotion.

Remember -- always do the logical thing, even if it leaves some people unhappy. Most of the time, such unhappiness is self-wrought, and as such can only truly be undone through the same means.

Democrats don't hate free enterprise (especially the majority), in fact that is a hallmark of a liberal that they do support free enterprise, which Republicans do if it pertains to them. Notice the Republicans and their stance against minimum wage and their acceptance of a almost $20,000 yearly raise! Democrats might not like it the way it is being practiced, but few do except those who are getting wealthy!

Free enterprise? Perhaps you should look up the definition as I don't think you have a clue as to what it means!

The Socialist have their own party, the Socialist Party though their are some social democrats!!

What is your definition of a Socialist? Anyone who doesn't agree with you?

What is the innuendo,"Why don't they say who they really are?" I know you would like to imply people who are socialist's are COMMUNIST! It is not so and you know it!!

But I do think you should tell us whether you are a fascist neo-Nazi! I would rather be a Socialist, which I am not!

By the way, even Socialist believe in a free economy, they just think that there is too much disparity between wages between those who do the work and those who flap their lips! Even Bush mad a comment that CEO's pay is getting way to far out of line!

And liberals: This is 1 definition fro Prinseton! Note "Free Enterprise:

Many people use this term incorrectly, often in a derogatory manner. Here are some definitions that are more accurate....

There is nothing wrong with supporting free enterprise and social awareness and support for the less fortunate at the same time. And even if we were socialists, we wouldn't be the cold war Red Communist fighter-pilots-with-black-mask bad guys you think.

Socialism is planned economy that benefits all. It will NEVER work, which is why we should seek the benefits of both systems, rather than let human suffering continue in the worlds' riches nation in the name of 'Free Enterprise.'

Because democrats are not socialists. That's why most of them voted for the bankruptcy bill last year, and went along with the lopsided tax cuts before that, and voted against single-payer health plans year after year, and goverment controls over prescription prices, and goverment pensions, and not lifiting the cap on social security contributions, I could go on and on....

Do some reserach before you throw out charged terms like that.

maybe they don't because they aren't socialists and there is no such "secret caucus" .. and the dems in power are just as rich as the republicans.... what makes you think any of them HATE free enterprise?

Umm do you have ANY legitimate sources for this or are you just whining again?

Do you mean "free enterprise" like what Halliburton got? What was "free" about a "no bid closed contract" no one ELSE got to bid on?
