A postgraduate student is the same as a graduate student. Both are students studying for a further degree after finishing an undergraduate degree. However, someone can be a graduate from a university without being a graduate student.

In British higher education a graduate is someone who has completed a first degree (also called undergraduate / bachelor's degrees) at a university.
An undergraduate is someone who is studying for a bachelor's degree (i.e. they are on the course but have not yet passed it and graduated).
A postgraduate (also sometimes called "graduate student") is someone who is studying for a second degree (sometimes called a Master's degree) for which the prerequisite is already having a first degree.

A graduate is some one who has a degree. Post graduate is usually used to describe what happens after your degree, such as post graduate research, but in some universities is used to describe people studying for an MA or MPhil or PhD. For instance, ' History post grads will be meeting in the JCR at 9.00am tomorrow.'

Essentially it is the same thing. However, the graduate goes off to work and the post graduate goes on to do their Masters and, thereby, earn a great deal more from the word go. After your Masters, you can do your PHD.

A post grad is someone who has already completed a course (degree usually) who is at UNI again to do something like a Masters!!! Therefore a graduate is just someone who's graduated but not back at UNI I guess!!!!

At the university level you have the following:
Undergraduate- Typically someone who is entering college out of high school, mostly takes classes trying to gain enough credits to get a degree.
Graduate- One who has completed undergraduate education, and desires further specialization and education in the field they got their undergrad degree in. They typically take classes, does novel research and teaches in some cases. They come in Ph.D or M.S. or some form like that.
Post Grad (post-Doc)- One who has finished their Ph.D and now applies to different universities to do even more research specialization. They are already a doctor level. They are typically done with classes, and get paid as much as a real job might pay you. Post-Doc's usually last 2-3 years or depends on funding.
These are all terms that apply to sciences. I'm not sure how universally applicable they are, but they can't be too far off.
