I think it would depend on the type of ice cream. My recipe is for a custard type ice cream. It has thick cream, milk, eggs, sugar, corn starch, and natural vanilla extract. I'm allergic to carrageenan, which is a sea weed and is used as a food expander (so you are buying whipped air) and is now found in most dairy products these days. (I've also seen it in smoked ham!) I've started using half and half or coffee cream instead of whipping cream because I can't find whipping cream that doesn't contain carrageenan.

yum. i love water. it's just the best thing ever-it tastes so good, with such a rich flavor and is just about the cheapest thing out there in its beautiful plastic bottles that usually have blue labels. Yum!
