I’ve been trying to find the name of this particular movie and its been really bugging me. I originally saw it on network TV in the late 80s when I was 8 or 9 years old and since I was so young I could never see the end of the movie because it went past my bedtime.
So here are the details
1. Since the movie was on network TV in the late 80s so it was probably released in the mid 80s
2. it was set in the middle ages or the dark ages
3. the main character was a monk or friar of some type
4. the main character also spoke with a british accent
5. there was a mysterious book/tome involved
6. anyone who read the book ended up dead
7. the people who died had a black mark on their finger
This thing has been bugging me off and on for the last 17 years

this movie is called in the name of the rose. it starred Sean Connery and Christian Slater. they were a monk and his acolyte investigating a death in a monastery.
