I was just looking to relocate to Honolulu, Hawaii and go to college there, then came upon the Philippines by my friend who is filippino and lives there he told me that I should move there. I never thought about it, and I was wondering would living there be better than Hawaii? Any suggestions? And would it be easier for an American to find work especially in the education field? Can you direct me to a site that could help me research more? I'm 28 and have a college degree but was going to try Hawaii for my educational degree. And wonder if it's worth all that or just moving somewhere that would be less stressful, than where i'm located now i'm sure anywhere would be better than o'l going no where Toledo, Ohio. And I'd prefer a warmer climate than now, but somwhere close to other locations I could visit on the other side of the world. Please help if you can, thanks

If you want to make money, stay in the USA. If you want to live in a beautiful country with beautiful peaceful people then move to the Philippines.

I'd recommend that you join a Yahoo Group (http://groups.yahoo.com/) called Living in the Philippines. There are a lot of Americans over there that contribute to that mailing list and they'll give you great, first-hand, advice.

1. A college degree from The Philippines is equal to a High School Diploma in USA.
2. For the few people who have jobs in The Philippines, the salary is about equal to $200 US dollars a month. That's for a degree holder, full time worker, putting in about 60-80 hours a week.
3. Its hot there. ALWAYS. There is never a break from the heat at any season of the year. Not everybody there has air conditioning. In fact, few do.
4. The lifestyle changes, sacrifices, and cultural differences will be disappointing for you.
5. Visit the Philippines but go to live in Hawaii.

You have received a lot of negative answers. As with most opinions, there is some truth; however, The Philippines have a very low cost of living, very friendly people, and is not as bad as some answerers indicate. Manila and other major cities have poverty and some crime (but mostly burglary rather than attacks) as is true anywhere. The climate is hot, but there are also mountains which are actually cool even in the Summer. I would agree that colleges there are GENERALLY less high quality than the U.S. (my nephew graduated from the U. of Hawaii; my girlfriend from a college in ****** Occidental - the U.S. education was better); however, Honolulu is one of the most expensive cities in the world. The Philippines are "laid back" without a lot of stress. Rather than listening to us, why not visit and see for yourself, then decide. There are problems in RP, but then again there are benefits.

it really is the reason. Why ought to we leave our Holy places? For the sake of international peace psh, you imagine that the Terrorists decide on that land?!!a million they decide on us pushed into the sea, they have reported it time and time again. do not abandon our people for political correctness, in case you do not stand for our people, then who will? God will, yet so do you ought to. you ought to also study whats occurring over there my brother, I have direct concepts from the fatherland and the territories. you imagine were combating a conflict over land? it really is over our very existance, and continuously has been. Relocate? you ought to probable have all individuals relocate if the Spanish inhabitants and illigal immigrants began attacking us too eh? Why ought to we leave our land? you ought to study from our Fathers. Our brothers are seeing the massive image, because they're proper contained in the hearth. that is you westerners who do not even understand how the eastern mindset thinks. now to not indicate what's occurring over there or what should be finished. Westerners haven't any proper to guage what's occurring contained in the fatherland. God gave us that land, and that is the major reason we ought to continuously not leave. take word: compared to many westerners, I have tremendous love for our brothers both Israeli and Arab yet not all Arabs, Muslims, Israelis, are terrorists, purely as not all Germans were nazis.

We have great colleges in Baguio.. Many. It is cool here and not as Manila which is very hot. It may get to 77 here but 100 in Manila. I am a US Citizen and came here to marry. I stayed in Cabanatuan for a year, which has a few colleges but is hot. It gets to about 65 for sleeping at night in Baguio and the number of choices in classes is very numerous. There is much to do here, also. Parks to play badminton and very good restaurants. There is many that serve American/Chinese/Filipino/Thai/ and many other foods! No, I did not get fat from it all! Ha. Good choices such as McDonald for a fast food or Wendy's. They even have Burger King at SM Mall. One thing you will like in the Philippines-- the COL is little! Rent is not bad either. Hawaii is expensive from what I know. The people here are friendly and will try to teach you Tagalog, the most popular language here. There is a club on Yahoo.ph that teaches Tagalog if you want to learn. One thing about Tagalog,, you say one thing it takes twice as long as it would in English. Come to Baguio and we will greet you as there are flights to here-- 45 minutes from Manila via Spirit Airlines...I have my e-mail open for comments on this site if you want to contact us. God bless... Earl

if your priority is getting your educational degree then i'd go to the Philippines but if you're looking for a place to live i'd go to Hawaii. it's much safer there.
But Philippines offers a very good education that's why a lot of students from the Southeast Asian nations are sent there to study.

i cant disagree with what they said about the economic status of the philippines.. if you want to work... go to hawaii, the ave basic salary is higher as compared to the philippines... but in terms of quality of education (specially if you will be taking economics, law, education, health care, medicine, nursing, politicals science) then the philippines is (no doubt) the best training ground.... its a battle for survival though...

as they say: "if you survived philippines... you'll survive anywhere else!"

besides, if you want to relax and hae a break from your books and lectures... the paradise is not so far away! theres palawan to chill-out... bohol to see nature at its best... boracay and manila to party all night!

hi, im from the philippines and yup you'll find many job opportunities esp. in the educational field, but sometimes you'll have problems with the traffic but sometimes it depends on the location..it's good also to live in there 'coz people are very hospitable, you wont have any problems living there...why dont you try visiting both before deciding?it's good to make sure which location you are more comfortable..

My step mom is Filipino and I have two brothers who are half...they have no interest in going...I work with a Filipino guy who moved here in his teens...he follows the news from there and says since the US military closed some bases, they are poverty stricken and crime is up...I wouldn't recommend trying to get an education there...maybe go do some peace corps work, but don't go expecting comfort and civility...

Hawaii is more expensive and living in the Philippines is cheap, but more dangerous!
