First I would change the thermostat to get that thing out of the equation. Normally if a vehicle turns off from getting hot, is that there is not antifreeze in the engine and maybe a thermostat not working correctly. It is normal for any vehicle to get hot and turn off. Reason being is that you are getting preexplosion in the cylinder before the spark explodes the gasoline, therefore ruining the flow of the cycle.

If you have problems and plan to keep the truck another year. Go buy the Haynes Repair Manual for your vehicle at an automotive parts store like Auto Zone, or what ever is close to you.

Does it crank at all when hot? If not, it could be the starter is weak and needs replacing. Another item to look at is if the fuel line is getting hot. It may be vaporizing the fuel in the line before the engine can use it.
