It as if you have a compass needle in your heart spinning round and round freely, then when you meet that special person the needle fixes on them and points at them and keeps pointing at them whichever way you turn. You don't have to be in close contact all the time. That person becomes the 'pole' of your heart. That's true love.
It's sad when you lose someone you love because the needle keeps pointing at them, even though they are receding into the past. But one day it will swing around again and point at the future...
Hope none of my friends read this slushy answer. LOL!

If I could recognize it, I would write a book. However I would give you the info for free.

I don't think you have to recognize it. You just know it. It's a very comfortable feeling that does not go away. It's knowing that you are accepted and loved regardless of anything that may happen.

Well when i came to love myself it was acknowleged by this feeling of complete freedom from that of my worst enemy...myself. I had also reached this level where i loved myself no matter what, in other words unconditionally. It is hard to explain but when you love yourself you know immediately what true love really is.

it's after the butterflies in the stomach wear off and you still want that person. When you are put in a room full of "perfect" men or women yet the only person you want is them. When you see they don't love you back you don't hold on and hope.
