i have the sims tm cd rom but i cannot install sims superstar cd rom my comp has all needed requirements. it appears to install and then breaks up when i hit on play

So, you already have The Sims 1 installed on your system? Where did you get the expansion disc from?
It sounds like the cd is damaged or corrupted somehow. I would suggest exchanging it for a working copy. You shouldn't have this problem installing that expansion (or *any* The Sims 1 expansions) if you already have The Sims installed on your computer.
Just to be sure, you should ask this question at The Sims Resource (check my sources). Their The Sims 1 General Discussion forums are very knowledgeable, and have always been able to help me in the past.

If I remember rightly, with the Sims 1, the expansions all have to be entered in a particular order. It could be that you have installed a later expansion before this one, although I thought Superstar was the last.
