The valedictorian...in high school....do they go by senior year only or by all four years? Thanks!!

It's by all four years.

Some schools weight advanced classes to make them worth more on a GPA, so the valedictorian might not have had the highest grades on his/her report cards, but because of taking advanced classes made up the difference there.

Some schools even have a rule that you have to attend their school for the entire senior year to be considered for valedictorian.

Being valedictorian does not automatically give you a free ride to college. In Texas, you get one year of tuition at a state college/university, which comes to somewhere between $5000-$8000, so you need a lot more to cover the cost of college.

The valedictorian is the graduating Senior with the highest GPA. Each year has a separate valedictorian.
