I have just started a PGCE & am also a pub landlady. I would like to teach the group more about units of alcohol. I notice that this has been done by a yahoo member previously & wonder whether anyone can provide a lesson plan & further guidance please?

I used to love micro teaching and one way I found it worked well is to do as much practical as I could with the students and ALWAYS give a handout on what you have done at end otherwise they will read what you have given first and not listen to you.
For me what would be interesting and give me a shock is if you brought in glasses and bottles fill them with water/coloured water and ask students to pour out what they would if they were at home and ask how many units they think they have drunk. My guess compared then to a pub messure you will show them it will be very shocking not to mention how much is a unit in the first place.
A subject such as yours practical session would work really well as when you set out front like a bar it will grab attention straight away they think what you have is real drink! lol
I have always found practical bits sink in when done a bit early in to teach and toward end.
But a bar set up in front of their eyes will work a treat.
I hope that has helped and remember it is always how you evaluate after that is important as long as you can see how it could be better if you had done this or that is the main thing.

There are numerous documented benefits and advantages of teaching children to read early on, and teaching them to reading using phonics and phonemic awareness instructions. It is clear that early language and reading ability development passes great benefits to the child as they progress through school at all grades, and that early language and reading problems can lead to learning problems later on in school.
