HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (AP) -- Anna Nicole Smith, the former Playboy playmate whose bizarre life careened from marrying an octogenarian billionaire to the untimely death of her son, died Thursday after collapsing at a South Florida hotel, one of her lawyers said.
Smith, 39, collapsed and was unresponsive while staying at the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe Hotel and Casino, said the attorney, Ron Rale. She was rushed to a hospital.

"She checked in Monday at 8 p.m. as a guest. She was due to check out tomorrow," said Danielle Giordaano, a spokeswoman for the hotel.

Smith had been a tabloid staple even before she became Playboy's playmate of the year in 1993. Readers were fascinated by her bombshell good looks, her marriage to an elderly billionaire and subsequent court fight over his estate, her weight fluctuations, and last year, the sudden death of her 20-year-old son, Daniel Smith.

A former topless dancer, she made her name squeezing into Guess jeans. She resembled the late actress Marilyn Monroe, a similarity played up in her Guess magazine ads, billboards and department store displays

I think it is very sad that when someone dies (especially so young) that people want to jump on the "Let's Beat Her Down" bandwagon.
The women never really stood a chance, she was just a lost soul. And when she died, she was a lost soul with a seriously broken heart.
It is my prayer that she will now find the peace she was so deserving of ( as we all are)

I want to know how she died....Kinda funny how her son dies and then she dies what not even 6 months later. Maybe it's the drugs that whole family is on. I liked her, she was kinda annoying but she was still funny. I think a lot of her family life which I understand is none of my business but since it's aired, I'm going to talk about it, her family life was a bit bizarre.

That's not nice. She was a person too. It's tragic to me because there's a little girl that doesn't have a mother now that will grow up in this world not knowing her. That woman lost a husband, a family and a son in her lifetime. That's more than any of us combined. Yeah I think some of the stuff she did was stupid and outrageous but have some compassion.

I liked her -- to be honest I'm slightly in shock. I admit she was very controversial and poor mannered -- but she wasn't ashamed of what she was. I'm wondering if more will be coming out -- just earlier this week I heard talk about further investigating her son's death and now this. I'm guessing suicide . . . but we'll have to wait and see.

I feel bad for her. I think he life was tragic from the start and I was always hoping the poor thing got her act together. People used her and used her until there was nothing left and now a little girl who is innocent is left without a mother.. its tragic. Yeah she was a mess but she was never mean or nasty or rude to people.

It is sad when anyone dies and she may have been silly but that doesn't mean she should have died. After all, most of the people on YA are silly but I wouldn't want them all to die.
