As the previous poster stated, your Hard Drive is failing. The longer you let it run the more likely it will completely die.
If you have important documents or pictures you should get them off immediately and then replace the hard drive.

Instead of waiting 20 minutes to shut down, just press and hold the power button for 5 seconds and it should shut down

Get the New Hard Drive.
You will need a way to swap out the Data from the Old Drive.
You will need to move fast once you decide how to do this:
You will need to place the old drive in a Fridge for a Few hours at least. Once you are set to go, then use the Old Drive, and copy off the data.
If you have some difficulty, the Drive may copy for a bit until it heats up, but it WILL actually work. I was skeptical when I was told of it, but it actually works and its a life saver

They are right - your hard drive is toast. DO NOT try to start it up again.

You best bet is to find a friend that can pull the hard drive and try to read the data and save your contents (assuming you can;t do it yourself). If its important enough to you, then take it to a shop and see what they can salvage. (they will not gaurantee all data can be retrieved!).

Then you need to get a new hard drive and start from scratch. I just swapped outa HD on a Gateway M2352 the other day with a bad hard drive. It was a Fujitsu 60GB slimline - bought the system this past October. They sent me a new HD in the mail with an RMA to return the old one. (New drive is Hitachi).

if it's doing this, then just pull the plug. you have either a hardware problem, power supply is not getting enough power to the motherboard or device, or you might even have a virus.
after you pull the plug, plug it back in and try and reboot the system. see what happens. if it doesn't work, see if you fans are moving in the power supple or the mother board. if they are, it is possible, the harddrive may be going out. usally when this occurs, you'll get a blue screen.

There are some internal problems.
Since you have a Gateway contact tech support and they will help you. If the system is still under warranty they'll replace the hardware and I Think? but not sure. They may even send a tech to your house to check out the pc and repair it at no cost.

i could desire to be incorrect yet with my adventure there is not any finished 1080p slowmotion. You checklist slowmo via putting your digicam to 60fps and many times that makes the digicam drop to 1080i consistent with probability even 720p. Then in submit production you drop the clips to 24fps with cinema techniques and that makes sluggish mo. on your budget DSLR's dominate each and everything in video. i might advise a Cannon t2i or t3i if thats nevertheless interior the form.

Gateway huh. Well has this computer been exposed to extreme cold or dropped in anyway because it sounds like your hard drive is knocking on heavens door. however you can check on that diagnosis by reloading or recovering your computer. if its still slow yup your hard drive is toast.
