the thermostat gauge on the dash does not work in my blazer. it heats up ok. what is causing it not to work? is it just the gauge or the thermostat itself and how hard is it to fix?

It could be the gauge the sending unit or a wiring problem. the sending unit is on the side of the engine usually. I think it has a green wire on it if you ground the wire the gauge should go all the way to the hot side when the ignition is turned on if it doesn't then check the wiring and gauge.

If you truck isnt overheating and heat is coming out of your heater box then your thermostat is fine.Your sending unit is probably just bad.This is very common.This little sensor screws into the engine block or intake manifold and reads the temp of the coolant.It is very cheap to replace.Part is about 20 bucks.This is very simple to do.Even if you had a mechanic do it,you shouldnt have anymore than 30 bucks in it with parts and labor.Antifreeze loss will be minimal when you do it as long as replace the sensor quickly after removal.Keep in mind that the guage may actually be bad.This is very rare and they dont go bad often but it does happen.Hope this helps.
