(CNN) -- Reality TV star and former model Anna Nicole Smith was pronounced dead Thursday after being taken to a Florida hospital, a law enforcement source told CNN.

Smith, 39, collapsed at a south Florida hotel, according to news reports.

"I can confirm that she is deceased. It's as shocking to me as to you guys," Smith's attorney, Ronald Rale, told Reuters. "I don't know anything further. [Her lawyer and husband] Howard [K. Stern], obviously, is speechless and grieving."

TMZ.com had reported that Smith collapsed at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, and was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood just after 2 p.m. ET.

According to reports, Smith was found unresponsive in her hotel room.

Smith was involved in a paternity suit regarding the parentage of her daughter, Danielynn, as well as other disputes, including some regarding a house she stayed at in the Bahamas around the time she gave birth.

Earlier this week, Smith was included in a class-action lawsuit against a company, TrimSpa, for which she had worked as a spokesperson. TrimSpa makes a product it claims leads to substantial weight loss. The lawsuit alleges the marketing of the product, TrimSpa X32, was false or misleading.

Smith's son, Daniel Wayne Smith, died at age 20 just days after the birth of Smith's daughter. Pathologist Cyril Wecht said a lethal dose of methadone and antidepressants caused cardiac dysrhythmia, leading to his death.

First of all, many if not most of the people of the U.S.A. care about the suffering of others, but they like most people don't care very much anything that is not directly related to them. Second of all, it's the mass media (including the news) that care more about reporting Anna Nicole Smiths death, than the American Military's Deaths. Of course, once they got the order to focus on the American Military's Deaths again, Anna Nicole Smith's death will be forgotten temporary. As you can see, the mass media don't represent the voice of the people, instead it's the voice that want to guide the people. I don't buy the 'they only want to sell stuff and make money' argument, since making profit seem isn't high in their priority, on the other hand getting money from sponsors are high in their priority. The mass media often give depressing things that no one wants, but they still make money? Can you say money laundering? The reason many people talked about Anna Nicole Smith's death is because it's the main course of what some mass media offered. You definetly know something is odd is happening when Steve Irwin was offered a State Funeral by the government of Australia and he was reported in the same level as a politician.

To care or not to care based on moral stand or greatness of a person is not me. I would not want to judge her on what she did.
What depresses me is the path she took. I see many other women taking the same path.
They call it "bold" "brave" "flaunting what she has" but where does it all lead to.
39 or 40 is the age when guilt and thing you lost but never cared about catch up with you.
I think that is what caught up with her. Maybe she looked back in her life and did not like it because deep down she must have been much more capable as a person. She did many things for money and maybe the drug scandal also drove more guilt into her which may have caused the death.
It just remind of an eagles song "life in the fast lane"
Always crashes i guess :-(.
What troubles me (generally not on a personal level) is her kid.
I hope many people learn from her. I wish no matter what she does but atleast we all know she had a soul and we should never forget that we all have a soul and if we dont listen to it now then at that same age we will all have to deal with it and it would be really difficult then.

I think her sudden(or early) death has only made me care to the point that I see has a person not as a celebrity and it makes me realise somethings.
She was not happy. She may have had the title of one of the most sexiest woman, she may have had millions of men crazy after her breasts, but she was not happy. Does such a lifestyle ever make you happy?

Yes, I care. I'm shock. Anna Nicole was in the news so much regarding her bizarre behavior and recently the paternity suit. I felt sorry for her. She was a silly dumb blonde but I liked her. I'm always sad when someone dies. Even though I don't know her personally, I am sad for Anna Nicole and her family. What is going to happen to the baby? Will Howard be able to raise the baby or the other guy? My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. May she rest in peace.

Yes, I care even though I didn't know her personally. It's always a sadness when someone dies, even if you or who ever else has that opinion. that you don't care. She was someone's daughter, mother, wife and friend and to us out here living normal lives she was an entertainment. So to answer your question yes someone
did care. But we are in the good ole USA where we have every right to our own opinion even if it dosen't always agree with others at times.

Yes, I care. She was a media icon and also has a baby that's barely 5 months old. I hope that baby gets raised properly by the right person.

That was a shocker. First her son, now her. It just seems too quick to have another person from the same family die.

Not really....she didn't look all that stable to begin with these past months. My initial reaction was shock, then I said it must have been the TrimSpa, okingly of course. I wonder who gets the baby...

It's a very sad thing for a baby to have never known their mother.
