Well I had to pay 100 for just a 29 gallon so your price range is about $150-220$ USD and you dont usually find larger tanks whith all the stuff included. Your filter would probably cost $30 whith some more cartridges. I would say around $250 for all the equiptment and if you are planning on getting a saltwater tank it will go up maybe a $100 more and fish won't be cheap and you won't have a WIDE range of fish to get for that size.

So in total is should = around $180-$230 whith fish and all if you get a cheap tank and $250 if you get a little higher price than $150.

Wal-Mart's got a 55 gallon with hood and excessories for about $125, that's a good deal. Stands have to be able to hold a massive amount of weight. Water alone weighs over 8 pounds per gallon. As for filters stay away from the under gravel kind. A Bio-wheel is an excellent filter. Canister filters are also good. Make sure you get a heater and airator as well, and get the pricier air stones (ceramic). They give a great fine mist bubble and will never need replacing like the cheaper ones. (bubble wall type) Please purchase a book about the fish you intend to keep, and one on fish keeping in general. Its not hard but you do have to know what to do. You will also need a syphon tube, you have to clean gravel and change the water with it. Do not get colored rocks or painted ornaments, they leach toxins. Avoid holy rock, that's the pretty orange and white swirly rock, its volcanic and WILL leach toxins into the water in only a few months time. Know this before you get into fish keeping. The people at the pet store want to sell you fish and product and they are counting on you to fail. That is why they sell all this bad stuff that is supposed to be aquarium safe. It is a buyer beware situation. Do your own research, ask questions, call professionals, hunt around the internet, DO NOT go solely by what Petsmart, Petco, and Wal-mart tells you. Petco is so stupid they have a commercial with a girl holding a goldfish in a bowl, when they know there is no such thing as a goldfish bowl. They should never be allowed to sell such a thing, much less advertise with it. They don't care about pets they care about MONEY. Good luck and don't buy expensive fish until you know what you're doing.

That's a great price. New 55 gal tanks are $89 at best prices. Stands are usually $120 if they're anything better than unfinished pine. Filter prices vary wildly depending on model.

You should try to get a 75 gallon. 55 limits your species because its only 13 inches wide. 75 is the same length but its bigger length wise. You can't get an oscar or green terrror in a 55 at adult size.

if you can find a tank and stand and filters at that price jump on it!
I paid 110 for a 20 gallon at the pet sore so 125 for a 55 is awesome

$125 for a new 55 gallon setup is a dream come true. That's a good used price for everything.
