People will put down anyone if they have a chance. They put down people in trailer parks, they put down people in high-rise penthouses. Everyone's a target.

I don't know, I guess because some trailier parks are the only place that poor people can afford to live. I rent an apartment right now, but if I ever bought a place, it would have to be a trailer, as that is the only kind of home I would be able to afford. I would be very resentful of being called trailer trash, because I have worked since I was 13, I work very hard, and just because I don't have a lot of money, and haven't had as many opportunities as some other people, doesn't mean I am "trash." Nobody deserves to be called a name like that- it's awful. I guess the people who do the putting down think they are better than other people. Shame on them.

Ya! I don't know why that is- Maybe stereotype meaning:
"We have money, live in big house and you live in trailer so that automatically makes you poor?
I guess they have never seen some of the beautiful trailer out there today?
And what doesn't help the mater is the show on TV that we have in Canada.
It isn't helping the mater but rather puts more fuel on the fire.
We all know what isn't called,
Canadians seem to love it as much as Hockey Night In Canada.
Called Trailer Park Boys. (Rickey, Bubbles and Julian)
Once again some people speak without thinking-
Bottom line-
People who live in glass house shouldn't throw stones!

Because people tend to be ignorant. Some of the most genuine, "real" people I have ever met were poor. It does not matter where you live, but more, what type of person you are. When you go before God on judgment day, do you think he is going to admire the fact that you had a $500,000 home, or that you were a good person and treated others kindly?

Same reason the general media brainwashes everyone into thinking that all people from Kentucky are ignorant hillbillies, they like to make themselves feel better for their short-comings. If anyone ever makes fun of anyone in a hurtful way, it's because they are feeling insecure over something in their own lives. Yep! I'm a Kentucky girl & proud of it!
P.S. AND I know plenty of great people who live in trailers.

Certain groups have no protection from taunts, like people who live in a trailer or rural whites.

Probably the same reason a large majority of people from UK look down on travellers/Gypsys.

Because they're poor, and sometimes when life has picked on other people, those who are more fortunate think they have the right to join in.
