I am a pretty good free throw shooter at 88%. I normally take 3 dribbles to the side, spin the ball in my hands twice and then look at the rim. I then bend my knees and take the shot. The most important thing is creating something that feels natural to you and keeping the same routine every time. In the end, practicing will make you feel more comfortable and concentrating on your routine can take the pressure away from late game free throw situations.

A way I like to do it is use a specific number so you focus on that only (ex. 3 dribbles, 4 spins, etc.), and not the distractions.
I like to do 3 dribbles with my eyes closed. Then, I spin the ball three times and move it to the tiny black dot. Next, I focus on the dot, and imagine myself shooting the ball into the basket. After that, I dribble another 3 times. Finally, I shoot the ball the way I imagined it.

If you are trying to make the basket, I have had some luck recently by looking at the front of the rim, then the back of the rim, and shooting. I feel it helps to think about getting it over the front of the rim, and hitting the back.
If you are just trying to find something that looks cool, I like RIP Hamilton's free throw style. He dribbles a couple of times on the side of his body and than shoots. Or stand way behind the line, like you just don't care. Don't rub your face like Jason Kidd. That is dumb.

Don't take anyone's freethrow dribble or routine. Be original and make your own up. Imitation is suicide.

I don't do anything special like they tell you to, I think it's all in your head.
Just focus on hitting the bottom of the net, and it will go in with practice.
