Can you call the White house and talk directly to the President?

Not a chance. Even Congressmen have to pass through his appointment secretary.
I think President Benjamin Harrison (1889-1893) was the last President who answered the phone himself. Imagine that, a time so innocent and simple when you could literally call the White House and the President himself would answer!
