Where would you expect it to be. It's a bit like asking why is the ceiling over your head. If it was under your feet you'd call it a floor.
The sky is not an object. There is nothing there but the scattering of blue light by the atmosphere. You are really looking into space, into infinity, but in the daytime the sun's light gives a blue aura in the atmosphere.
jeez, you might as well ask why the stars are up in the sky, because they are not really. They are just out there beyond the earth, the great ball we live on.
I hope you are not more than a small child, because otherwise I would wonder at such a childish question.

the sky is what we see from the earth looking up ,our atmosphere ,we are hurtling along through space with an envelope of sky to protect us from everything outside . radiation from the sun could burn us or cause terrible disease
