there are at least two people in a family and as many as you wish. it is your safe place, your haven where you can be yourself and be loved because of who you are and in spite of who you are. they don't need to be related by blood, and they definitely
don't need to fit in any statistic. i guess my husband and i do fit the statistics but we have many friends who don't and they are every bit as happy and troubled as we are.

Family is not necessarily your mother, father, brothers and sisters.
Family to me is more profound and wide ranged. Your friends are your family. Your colleagues are your family. People around you are your family too.
Sometimes friends could be more closer emotionally to you rather than your own biological parents and siblings. Sometimes you really cannot rely and depend yourself on your own biological family at all. They might disappoint, dishearten and thwart you. So to me the real definition of a family is not necessarily your biological parents only but more about all the people around you that support you in so many way and always stand by your side no matter what happen to you.
Base from my own life experience since no one could really choose their own family, I learn that biological family really could be (if you are lucky enough) your greatest blessing in your life OR (if you are unlucky) your miserable curse ever.

Something you have to treat well and share love to by your own and in the same time don't lost yourself. During the part of your life when you have to think about others more than yourself but still make some kind of sympathy between you and your close. When you are on your way to transfer experiences from earlier generations and are a part of the future. And as a nice finishing; A loving group to share your heart :)

most people assume a family is related by blood or think in terms of mom/dad/kids and extended blood relations. my experience is that there is no guarantee that a blood relation will love you, care for you, or be there for you any more than a non-blood relation so I would expand my definition to include anyone who I am close with and spend time with, converse with, respect, who cares for me, loves me, helps me and I reciprocate all the same, whoever you share your life with and can count on in good times and bad...

The crowd of people that are both blood-related and family friends that I've known my whole life. Otherwise, every single born-again Christian on this earth is my family...God is the Father, and we are brothers and sisters in Christ. I'll be spending eternity with them! ;)
