JFK was fun, had a great sense of humor, and was very interesting to listen to. However, he really was a failure as a President. His programs were dead on arrival when they reached Congress. It was only after he was assassinated and Johnson was President that Kennedy's programs, through Johnson's efforts, were approved in Congress.
Kennedy got us into Vietnam, his economic programs were not working, and he, along with his brother Bobby, created much dissension in the Democrat Party. Remember, the reason he was going to Dallas in the first place was because he was running for re-election, was in danger or not winning, needed Texas to win, and headed there to try to heal wounds which had split the party in Texas. He was by no means a successful or good President. He was martyred as a young man, and therefore became a hero to his generation and the one that followed.

He's fondly remembered, but his foreign policy nearly got us into a world war with the Soviets at least twice and his bright boys in the Cabinet who were so sure of themselves got us into the mess in Vietnam (and a few smaller but similar situations elsewhere). His biggest two accomplishments are in civil rights, though this was primarily a political ploy to contest the electoral conservatism of the southern states, and his tax policies, which later were the basis for Reaganomics. As a matter of fact, he can be thought of in many ways as a junior version of Reagan, though less effective.

Well it depends on the way you look at it. He did not have things going his way at the begininng being young, and catholic. But he had great vision of what the United States could potentially be. Though he made a huge mistake, the (Bay of Pigs Invasion), he admitted that he screwed up. The Americans like people who admit that they screwed up (unlike Richard Nixon). Bu tragically he was assassinated and who knows where the US would have gone if he survived longer.

Yes he was. Good, not great. However the liberals didn't like him even though he was a Democrat. He was for lowering taxes.

He was killed when I was only a child myself, so to me he wasn't given the chance.
