Dell
They are the best laptops by far, better screens (tru-life) better graphics card (512mb 7900 GTX) and fully upgradeable (cpu, hd, graphics card, screens)...
I just upgraded the graphics card on my Dell Inspiron 9300 ( 64mb X300 to 256mb Geforce 6800) and i can go higher (7900) ...you can't do that with other laptops.
My 2003 Dell Precision M50... I have never had problems, and its been on 48 hours on some days (digital 3D design) with no problems at all. Video editing, Web design it can handle without any problems

They are all three very good machines. Apple isn't as good for gaming because very few of the popular games are written for the Mac. Between Sony and Dell, if you compare equally equipped machines you will find that neither one will be better quality than the other. Apple/Mac right now should be avoided, unless you are a graphic design person, because only a handful of software manufacturers have software on the market written in "universal binary" for the new Intel Macs. The software available for Macs right now will work, but it is slower than it should be. Macs will be better when the software manufacturers catch up.
I would advise choosing between the Sony and Dell, with Dell being my preference for dependability, value and service availability.

DELL is by far the best in value. There customer support is also excellent. Apple is better than Sony and are the most secure laptop. Sony are good but are a bit expensive and there batteries have been exploding lately.

Funny thing is that I have one of each in my house. I love Windows Vista but my Apple laptop far out performs my others plus its so amooth. (Limited Software however). My Dell is the cheapest of the bunch but it actually has more features than the Sony. My favorites are in order
Apple
Sony
Dell
But if your on a limited budget then Dell really is the best and only choice.

it depends on your needs.... apple pcs are better for media.. say you are a video editor or audio editor or manage a lot of photos or watch media-rich stuff... apple is the way to go... but I call it a matter of compatibility... more systems, software, networks...are compatible with PCs... which is where sony and dell are strong... sony laptops are awesome designwise but I've heard their sutomer support isnt too great. I've had a Dell and when I had a problem (while it was under warranty) they would send a technician the next day to fix the problem... they came to me, not me to them...which I found excellent... Vaios are cool cuz they are normally tiny and are rich in features for media, but I think support is important, and Dell computers aren't far behind Sony Vaio's... moreover, I think Dell's are better now that they use some AMD processors and offer more upgrades within the company itself... Oh, and the price tag on Dell's is ALWAYS better....

it depends on what your needs of having a laptop is. once you have identified your needs, you should always choose the one with the least cost to own. most of the time the least expensive computer that will cater to most people's requirements is the dell. the sony is too high priced for similar features. the apple is more often touted as a multimedia machine - music and videos - than a serious computing machine.
i would strongly suggest getting a dell.

Dell!!! I love Dell laptops
I dont know about sony laptops, but I've heard that apple does not make very good laptops (at least in just a few cases I've known), but you forgot about Toshiba, I had one once, and it was good, toshiba makes great ones too. Mine is Dell now, and it's really good, and almost weightless, I love it!! And it had a marvelous price, it's a Dell Inspiron.

It used to be that if you've got money, you buy a mac. But that only worked if you knew how to use it. But now you can get XP (or Vista) installed on any mac laptop along with Mac OSX. This is a huge bonus if you are just learning the mac operating system, it lets you learn at your own pace. The Apple MacBook Pro 15" and 17" are some of the most beautifully designed computers in the world.

I can't stand anything Apple. I seriously wish that company would die. Sony is overpriced, and Dell is like the Wal Mart of the computer industry. Get an HP, at least they have an R&D budget.

Buy an Apple Mac book. Install Parallels and run windows as a Virtual Machine. You have a pretty Mac book with OS X and windows hiding in it.
