This is the question I have to answer for my math methods class. I have the answer from the book but I would like to include an activity for the class to do when I present my answer to my classmates. Any suggestions?

Based on the Multiple Intelligences theory (which is amazing), kids and people in general learn in very different ways. Some kids learn better by moving, singing, by visualizing, by talking, drawing....So, look at the kids and figure out their strengths and have them try acting out the ideas/problems, moving rhythmically (ie.clapping), making a song about them. Math can be taught in so many different and creative ways not just as abstract drills which are difficult to comprehend. Abstract concepts are so difficult for many people because they can't grasp an idea they can't visualize. This is why so many people hate math and physics. I'd recommend a really great book for all teachers of childlren/teenagers "Teaching with and for Multiple Intelligences" by David Lazear. Good Luck

Make up songs for them. When I was a kid I loved to watch School House Rock and I still remember the multiplication songs they had. I even found the CD to use with my classes.

what about math manipulatives? it's hard to memorize something that is arbitrary if you don't understand what's behind it.
