my favorite kind of books are fantasy/science fiction books like Harry Potter, Eragon, Eldest, Chronicles of Narnia, LOTR... i just finished Eldest and i've read all of the Harry Potter books too many times. while i'm waiting for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and the next Inheritance book to come out, i need something else to read. any suggestions?

i think a few of you are under the impression that i'm a kid. i'm 20, so you can suggest more adult books than Chronicles of Narnia types. i only read that one once (and loved it the first time) but the 2nd time through it was a bit juvenile.

Twilight and New Moon by Meyers
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Bray
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Carroll
The Looking Glass Wars by Beddor
Wicked and Son of a Witch by Maguire
Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Maguire
Mirror Mirror by Maguire
The Princess Bride by Goldman
Inkheart and Inkspell by Funke
Dragonriders of Pern by McCaffrey
Yes, I did see the Eragon movie. It was COMPLETLY different from the book. I did enjoy the movie, but that's because I wasn't expecting to see the book on screen. What book isn't better than the movie? Eragon is no exception to this.
Enjoy!

There's a trilogy by Libba Bray which is really interesting. A Great & Terrible Beauty and Rebel Angels have already been published, but the final installment A Sweet Far Thing, will be published sometime later this year. They're fantasy and have some witchcraft-ish things in it and the main characters are later-teenage girls. It's a very interesting series and my sister who's read the Harry Potter and is working her way through the Inheritance series loves them (in comparison). I've only read the Harry Potter books, but I would highly recommend this series.

Well, not sure if you know it or not, but J.K. Rowling, the one who wrote Harry Potter wrote a small book that is called The Tales of Beedle the Bard. It is very small, but if you just finished reading the Harry Potter books, then you should know about what I a going to tell you. When Professor Dumbledoore dies, Hermione ends up getting all if is letters he had kept. The is what The Tales of Beedle the ard s about. Its like a copy of all the letters, it is very small, but will add more to your Harry Potter's that you have already read. By the way, I am a BIG fan JK. Rowling and her Harry Potter's LOL. Good Luck

Yes, the movie was disappointing! They could have made it like a LOTR, but they decided to make it another cheap disney movie that was kid-friendly. The book is way more entertaining. I've read all those books except Harry Potter, and I'm a hardcore fan of all of them. I can't wait until the rest of the Narnias come out, too!
As far as books to read, some of my favorites are:
-A Wrinkle In Time (or anything by Madeline L'engle)
-Thief of Always (Clive Barker)
-The Cat's Pajamas (or anything by Ray Bradbury)
-The Wizard of Oz trilogy (L.F. Baum...more for kids, but I still enjoy them)
-Anne of Green Gables (L.M. Montgomery...a must if you are a girl!)
I've also read the Wheel of Time series (up to book 10...there are 12, but the 12th is still being written) but they are really long and by the 6th book, it gets repetitive and boring. The first 3 books are pretty good, if you want to start on them. It will take FOREVER to finish, so if you are still waiting for those others to come out, try them!
Happy reading! ;)

The eragon movie was very disappointing, it just didn't do justice to the book.
I loved all the books that you have mentioned and I suggest you read ender's game by Orson Scott Card, very more futuristic but you fall in love with the main character. If you want to stay in the format of LOTR i would recommend the Dragonlance by Margaret Weis and tracy Hickman, they are 4 books and you need to read them all otherwise the story is like totally cut. That doesn't happen with Ender's game that thought they are 4 books as well each has its own story that ends with each book.

You should definately try Philip Pullman's trilogy "Northern Lights", "The Suble Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass". They're great if you like fantasy but don't need things dumbed down (you clearly have good taste already!). The Northern Lights centres around the adventures of Lyra, a young girl who ends up going on a quest to the north pole, complete with great characters, a chilling villan and talking armoured polar bears, this is one of my favourite books of all time.
He also wrote the Sally Lockheart series - not so much fantasy but set in Victorian London and all about a young orphan who becomes embroiled in a murder story. Also very good - despite the recent BBC film adaptation ripping the story to shreds.
You might also like Terry Pratchett, he writes a fantasy series all set on the Discworld. Each book centres on one or two main characters and after a while you see how they all connect. He uses humour well, I really love his books.
Happy reading!

I like David Eddings "The Belgariad/The Mallorean." And since you mentioned C.S. Lewis "Chronicals of Narnia," his "Space Trilogy" is also good though a little more "grown up."
Oh, BTW, there are actually 14 "The Wizard of Oz" books.

You might enjoy Piers Anthony's Xanth series. There are over 30 of them now, with the first being A Spell for Chameleon.
