There are many different foods and drinks that people recommend that you don't consume whilst breastfeeding but there is no reason at all why you shouldn't eat chocolate, in moderation.
Mothers report that babies most often object to chocolate; spices (cinnamon, garlic, curry, chili pepper); citrus fruits and their juices, like oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruit; strawberries; kiwifruit; pineapple; the gassy veggies (onion, cabbage, garlic, cauliflower, broccoli, cucumbers, and peppers); and fruits with a laxative effect, such as cherries and prunes.

Chocolate didn't seem to affect it to much (my OB and my son's ped gave the okay for me to drink iced tea at will, 1-2 cups of coffee a day, and one chocolate item a day while nursing). Onions on the other hand were a no no. My son didn't nurse if I had eaten them-took 2x's to figure that out and the end of onion. He also wouldn't nurse if I ate Italian food or any tomatos. And garlic anything was a big no. He now loves to eat Italian food though-our local pizza place knows him as extra cheese and black olives. LOL.

YES!!! It has a huge effect. The onions will make the taste of your milk different and make it taste sour. It will also give your baby gas. The chocolate contains a lot of caffeine which is not a good idea to pass on to your baby.
Keep it as clean and natural as you can while you're breastfeeding. I know it's so hard, but you're doing a great thing for your baby.

Anything you eat affects your breastmilk. Onions will definitely add a strange taste to it, but so will garlic, broccoli, and anything else with strong flavors. Not only that, but you could wind up with a very gassy baby, which is NEVER fun.

This is what I know:
Chocolate will clog your milk ducts. Happened to a friend of mine, it's very painful.
Don't know about onions, but green veggies like broccoli and also peppers will give the baby gas and very stinky poop.

Chocolate is a gastric irritant and onions supposedly make baby gassy.

The baby can probably take it if he/she inheireted your tastebuds. I've never had chocolate and onions but it can't be too good!

You can eat them if you want; just monitor your baby afterwards. I never had a problem w/ chocolate. My daughter didn't like oil & vinegar.
