I love animals and have loads of pets. I also do horseriding and i have noticed that, on the horse i ride, when ever i decide to ask her to trot or canter, she starts doing it before i ask her. I also spend a lot of time with her and she seems to pick up on what i am about to do and reacts to it before i do it. My dog is also like that, she senses things and seems to know what i will do next. All my animals pick up on my mood, especially my dog and the horses at the stables.

Your horse reacts to you because you are giving her small signals with your body that you are unaware of. For instance you begin to think of trotting and as you think it your lower leg starts putting a small amount of pressure her side - you aren't aware of it.

But yes, animals have abilities that we cannot fathom. Remember the tidal wave a couple of years ago that killed so many people? Several of the people that lived through it said that the animals sensed danger HOURS before the wave hit and went to higher ground! I've lived through earthquakes and in retrospect saw that my animals were acting goofy long before the actual earthquake.

I would have to say that I do agree that some horses can send a message to you and vice versa without even getting on them. I have also read of this.
Have you ever went up to a horse you knew and have rode and for some reason just had an ill feeling before you mounted so you did not? Then when someone else did, the horse went running and bucking and spinning with the fool on her? Yea, she just gave you a signal she was not up for the ride that day and by you feeling that ill way toward her, you never went thru with the ride. I can see it in their eyes and how they look at me when I approach them that day and already sense the mood I am about to deal with so I am prepared.

No.
Horses are not "psychic." They are extreamly attuned to body language, however. When your horse picks up the trot or canter before you ask, she is reasponding to very subtle signals and shifts of weigh that you are not even aware of. If you ride bareback a lot, you learn to feel when a horse that is standing camly is begining to think about walking off, just by the litle movements of muscles under you. Your horse is aware of everything you are doing at any given moment.
She picks up on things you are about to do because she knows your pattern. When I pick my horse's hooves, she knows which one I'm going to do next not because she is psychic but because I always go in the same order.
Dogs are the same way, attuned to body language. Humans have spoken language, but animals speak more with their bodys, so they notice ours more than we do.

Animals cannot speak and communicate the same way we as humans do, so they rely heavily on body language. When you do things, there are subtle behaviors you go through before you ask for a canter for example that clue your horse that you are preparing to ask for it. Or when people say their animals know when they are going away, or when they are having visitors, they figure out the habits and routine you go through before you leave and react to that. There is also alot of data and research supporting a type of "group consciousness" in herds or packs of animals. They are able to sense across the group something that is either important to group survival, or to group cohesion. Often herds of horses can sense across the group if a single member picks their head up, senses a movement in the area around the herd, etc. The whole herd instantly picks up their heads if it's a danger, or moves if they need to move. In that same way, your horse, your dog, etc, can sense your mood as you come towards them, both through your body language and their ability to intrinsicly 'know' what is going on around them.

Animals may perceive things that humans cannot. Their senses are tuned to other factors than we do. They can be more sensitive to vibrations in the air or on the soil, have a more refined sense of hearing or smelling. Personally, I would argue that wild animals are more psychics than pets, as being too closed to human beings, some animals become psychologically ill. When the tsunami struck in the Indian Ocean a few years ago, many wild animals managed to flee and reach safe places whereas human beings were still enjoying life on the beach. Interestingly, some tribes in the Andaman Islands which we would call primitive, manage to escape as well, they knew which signs meant the sea was going to be nasty.

As far as her picking up on you about to trot or canter, thats because your body is already getting ready for it, and they feel it. Thats what good horses do. Mine are like that. But, I absolutely think that they are a bit psychic- horses and parrots seem to be the most sensitive from my experience. We had an animal psychic out who "talked" to our critters. She did say some surprising things!

Sounds like you have a special affinity for animals. Yes, your mare is picking up on subtle body language you give when you prepare to make a moe. Thi is good because it means she is in tune to you and responsive. What some riders would give to have that with their horses! You are quite fortunate.

Yes, especially at the horse races. I always ask the horses which horse is probably going to win.

They get to know you! I showed horses for a really long time and you get to a point that they know what you want before you want! It's like a best friend who can finish you're sentences for you!

I have heard that dogs are psychic because they know when someone is going to have a seizure before it happens.
