my wife will be on crutches for 2 years. she didnt have a job before but could she still collect disability and how does she get it

Are you sure it will only be two years ? Or could it be longer ? This is what I would do I would apply for it, and you will be denied then appeal that decision. During this time, if it is not temporary like you suspect they will have to pay you back pay for the time she lost.
Another thing to consider is your assets, and if they will have any bearing at all on this. There are some good attorneys out there that will advise you and give you a free consultation
