My daughter feels like she should be sick sometimes through the night and also through the day at times, even when she has not just finished any food. It is not 'heartburn' she says...

It's GERD, and it used to happen to me all the time. Over time the acid can cause erosion or the esophagus and even cancer. She needs to be seen by a doctor.

In the mean time you should raise the head of her bed by at least 3 to 4 inches, I bought bed risers and only used 2 at the head of the bed.

Acid reflux doesn't feel like heartburn. Read this article:

If it is reflux, try the following:

* more frequent but smaller meals

* not lying down for at least 30 mins after eating/drinking

* avoiding highly acidic foods eg. citrus fruits, tomato etc. and spicy foods such as curries.

* readily avaiable ant-acids

* when sleeping, elevate the head of the bed just a few degrees - say 10 or so.

She may have a weak esophageal sphincter (upper or lower on the 'food pipe'... two muscles that are shaped like rings). If this is the case then elevating the bed head and smaller meals may help significantly.

Hope this helps :)

this problem is coming from the digestive system
it is the digestive in the stomach which is slow to work. so to prevent this make sure she chews small amounts of food very well,and not to rush food down or gulp anything .and definitley not to over eat.this will help as it gives the digestion to do its work and not trying to work overtime.food we eat stays in the stomach until the digestion and if it is slow it throws back what it cant manage hence the sickness.

That's not normal for anyone to have this kind of "gastric distress".I would recommend you take her to the MD soon,in order to sort this out etc. Could be a stress reaction,or a ulcer,or a case of acid reflux disease. Take care. SW RNP
