Oh my god, yes! I always do that. Even if they know a bit of English and can understand I then start using big complicated words to throw them off.
It's more fun that way. :-)

Depends on which country you are in. For instance I was in the philippines for two years, many speak English. Since when I started living there I didn't know the language I had no choice to speak anything but English. But after a while I could converse a bit in Tagalog. Depends on the situation and the country.

No, I live in Morocco and I let my husband speak for me most of the time. They speak Moroccan Arabic and French here, and I use the few words I do know whenever I can. There are some here who know a little English and love to try to speak with me, and I always let them.

you know everyone talks about the locals in english assuming they won't understand and funnily enough, they speak english.
once i went to france(i can't speak french) i went up to this man(he was french) and asked him directions to the hotel(i was in deisney land) i thought he didn't speak english(he did) so i was shouting "Where is the hotel?" at the top of my lungs. the man thought i was crazy. he then(after a minute of me screaming) told me ing fluent english the directions to the hotel. lol. cringe!!!
also. i speak urdu(i'm not fluent though) and if i want to talk about someone or swear and there are adults or teachers near i will swear in urdu!!!!!!

NEVER! I hate it when Spanish speakers do that, it's so rude!
It's not like you can grow up in a bordering state and not comprehend some words. Major pet peeve.
