I have just bought myself a new acer laptop and got a d-link 524 wireless router and usb to go with it. I have plugged the ethernet into my ntl broadband modem and another ethernet from my router to the back of my Pc. Once i was then connected to my Pc when i opened up internet explorer it read "cannot find server". All lights ob the front of the router are on, and the connection strength is excellent, i have no idea whats going on but i cannot connect to the internet.

I believe that is the one i used to have. If should have came with software (quick setup wizard) - did you run it on your machine before connecting to the network as it has to run to set up the router from your machine to allow it to recognise it?

If not got here to download the drivers: http://www.dlink.com/products/support.asp?pid=316&sec=0#applications

You will need to run the software on all machines you want to connect through the router i believe - do this with each machine connected by cable to the router rather than wireless as it wont recognise it until the drivers are installed!

Alternatively you should be able to set up IP addresses etc manually by going to the router settings by typing in the address bar the url of your router settings page (you will find it in the manual downloadable from the link above).

Sounds like ip configuration. See if any software came with the router and run that.
