My security skill is at maximum level but i can't seem to use lockpicks successfully.

Get the Skeleton key from one of the Dedric Prince shrines, you have to do a quest 4 it but its well worth it. You can unlock any lock without breaking picks!!

They should work on most locks in the game. There are a couple that need special keys but these are mentioned in the plot as part of quests, 99% of them open with lockpicks. A lock pick is used like a weapon (it needs equiping in the character's hand) and the character stabs the lock with it with the attcak button. It should make a clicky noise and tell you if you have suceeded or failed.

Alternatively open the console, click on the annoying lock that won't open and type "unlock". Hit enter and hey presto, no more closed lock!

you might not beable to get into every lock all the time, and also you might need a key assigned to that door/chest ^_^ good luck and have fun!!!

you have to see a pattern, see the bar things- they will have a distinct pattern of going up
