Is there any insect repellent that I could use that would kill the bugs but not the plant.

I don't know the name of the plant unfortunately but I got it at walmart and its a plain old small plant...

Try this---mix up some dishsoap and water, about 1 tsp of dishsoap and 2 cups of water, put it in a spray bottle and spray the plant's leaves both sides top and bottom, and then saturate the top of the dirt.

That should do the trick.

They sell insectisides at walmart that you can use on the bugs that won't kill the plant. Go to the gardening section and there is one that is in a yellow spray bottle that worked really well for me and my office plant. Just read the labels because each one does something a little different and follow the directions...good luck with your fly problem :)

any chance of pics of the bugs?

I would say just a light spray of fly spray will help. dont drown the plant in it, just a fine quick burst.

but knowing what insects they are could help give you a better solution to the problem.

Try to identify the plant and then call a florist. Even if you cant identify it call them. They have lots of "home remedies" for plant issues.
