Very simple. Meabh answers shows the blindness of some in this area. She thinks N. Ireland is Ireland. ! Being born in N. Ireland the child is naturally British (as N. Ireland is part of Uk )and always will be. However under the Good Friday Agreement the child can get dual citizenship and have a Irish passport also. This extra clause was put into the Good Friday Agreement to appease the Hardline extremists in return for the Irish Government giving up its claim to N. Ireland.
