Would you still TELL THE TRUTH if you were threatened?

Question

Something bad is happening that could hurt a kid you are close to. The parents are being very verbally abusive & threatening physical violence if you try to help the kid. The kid is in deep trouble cos the parents are lying to cover up their abuse. What do you do?
No vile answers, please!

I would like to thank the people who answered this question. I was having a non-heated row with my partner at the time I wrote it, cos he was telling me to say nothing cos I have my own child to protect. Your answers did confirm that telling the truth is best so that has given me the courage to do that. I have already fought a battle for the child who is in trouble, for about 15 months now, but there is a court case to face... & I now know what to say, thanks to all your help.

I think you know the answer already . We must always help a children by what ever needs necessary ie,social services the police etc .

Yes of course I would be frightened of the threatened violence I think most people would be how ever i could not live with myself knowing I had failed to help a child or children in need .

THE NECESSARY LAW FOR SUSTAINABILITY

Now, our first mision is recognize that, with it, we can obtain many benefits. First, the necessary apparatus to safeguard in a natural way, our demographic levels for the future coming. In second place, with this simple law, fredom source and basic for many citizens – we also could get the necessary condition to put the point and end to the social disorders and sufferings like wars, prostitution, the poverty, the illness, the hunger, drugs, delinquency, crimes, emigration...
And finally, like third point with a more just and human shelter, besides obtaining the fruits of freedom, we will obtain the natural apparatus to safeguard and control ours planetarious levels of contamination and degradation due our due to our old and altruistic system of consumption for the future coming.
The reform of this law is an exercise that we must realize between all as rapidly as possible to avoid the appearance of the new evils.

If you are a student still in school, you could check with your parents and go to your school counselor and tell them what you know and your fears! They will know what to do. If you are phycially threatened yourself, DEFINITELY get your parents involved and report the threats to the police. If you've not seen the abuse first hand, still tell a counselor, as the kid may be making it up????? Either way, the kid needs help. That's a tricky situation, but you need to tell an adult--maybe a pastor or priest if you're involved in a church. AND try to get the kid to go to the counselor and police for help!! Child Protective Services are available too. Over-crowded as they are, they can still point you to some help!

The kid is at risk, do something about it.

The kid and yourself have this to live with for the rest of your lives. If your life is not messed up by it, the kids will definatley be.

What would you want your friend to do if you were in that situation.

If this is a question regarding something that is happening now, GET YOUR FRIEND HELP BEFORE THE DAMAGE IS IRREVERSABLE!!!

Once the problem is exposed both of you will be protected from the risk, threats and possible violence.

These parents appear to be nothing more than bullies and scum of the earth for hurting a child, I'm sorry but i would have to contact the N.S.P.C.C or the police and tell them everything, but make out to the parents that nothing is going on so not to endanger the child any further.

i could never live knowing a child is being hurt and not try to do something about it. To be honist i think i would prefer me get a kicking rather then the child try your best mate and please try not to worry 2 much if they are abusing a child it shows that they probably won t touch an adult anyway it is a hard thing to do. Me and my wife had to report her father for abuse and neglect to my brother in law and it was a hard thing to do but we knew it was right

1- contact child protective services, if you are in the USA there is a 24 hour emergency line for every state. look in the blue pages of your phone book, or on an internet directory.

2- If you suspect there is vebal or physical abuse, contact the police NOW!!!!!!!!!!

Report the parents to the police. They will put the child in a safe place so that the parents cannot hurt him/her to "get back" at you.

In the first place nobody can feel me threatened in that situation. I will tell the truth to proper authorities.
