That has to be a frightening job, the crowd always is insulting and sometimes threatening the umpires. A job I wouldn't want.

My dad is an Umpire for Fast Pitch Softball as well as a referee for Volleyball.
The money is really good once you get up to College ball. But he does have a few stories about having to walk as fast as he could to the car after-wards and speed out of the parking lot!!

These guys are the most maligned people in all of sports. I think it takes an extraordinary individual to become a referee or umpire at any level. I must admit, I have questioned the sanity and eyesight of many a ref in my lifetime. But at the end of the day, I realize that theirs is a job that requires patience, tact, diplomacy, a rather thick skin and a tremendous amount of love for the sport in which they operate. My hat is off to them.

First I do not think you can say it was the umps who cost you the game... I mean Fev did kick 3-7... (Almost as bad as buddy). And blaiming the umps is sooooo Collingwood come on be a good blues supported and just that the good with he bad, I see many times that my team gets the raw end of calls but I also see that they get some which should not have been paid, Ithink over all it evens out. Now having said that if an ump makes a mistake we all want to kill him, but when someone kicks 3 goals 7... We do not say anything... Players make more mistakes then the umps do, yea it is annoying when it is a 4 point game but really do not let it get to you. MK

I respect them. I used to ref soccer games and it was fun for me. When people were yelling to the point where I got mad I would make the wrong calls on purpose. I always win.
