A. Flat bones. Flat bones consist of a layer of spongy bone between two thin layers of compact bone. Their cross-section is flat, not rounded. Examples include the skull, ribs and and scapula as you mentioned above. Flat bones have marrow, but not a bone marrow cavity.

D is wrong. Sesamoid bones are typically found in locations where a tendon passes over a joint, such as the hand, knee, and foot. Functionally, they act to protect the tendon and to increase its mechanical effect.

B is wrong too. The long bones are those that are longer than they are wide, and grow primarily by elongation of the diaphysis, with an epiphysis at the ends of the growing bone. The ends of epiphyses are covered with a hyaline cartilage ("articular cartilage"). The longitudinal growth of long bones is a result of endochondral ossification at the epiphyseal plate. Bone growth in length is stimulated by the production of growth hormone(GH), a secretion of the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland .

The guy that said it's B is confused. The link he gives you specifically says that the "spongy bone forms the interior of the epiphyses; the diaphysis" He must not know what the epiphyses is. The epiphyses is located in the far ends of every long bone where the joints are. It doesn't create a "sandwich" as in a flat bone.

It's B: lon bones

Cartilage and bone: Spongy bone
Spongy bone is the tissue that makes up the interior of bones; compact bone is the tissue that forms the surface of bones. In long bones, spongy bone forms the interior of the epiphyses; the diaphysis (shaft) consists of compact bone surrounding the central marrow cavity.

The answer is A. Although you should probably do the homework by yourself, flat bones are the ones in your cranium. Long bones are bones like the humerous and femur. Short bones are the ones in your wrist.
