Just to add to the history, Ferrari was none too happy about the copycat naming .. including copping the "2+2" 360 Modena moniker in their Catalina 2+2. They had a shootout in '65. Pontiac brought a GTO as well, but the original 389 had a 421 shoehorned in. The Ferrari GTO was not ran, but the Cat creamed the Modena scooting 0-60 in 3.9 seconds (it is widely known they cheated .. but, hey, when Ferrari calls you out ....). The Modena beat the Indian on the track by 1/2 second, but the price tags were about $14,000 and $4,000.

Pontiac actually "borrowed" this from Ferrari. It does actually mean "Gran Tourismo Omigloto" or something like that.
Pontiac said it means "Get Turned On" those were the days...
