No. That's cheating my firm and I won't do that. It's about self-pride more than anything else. I'm a professional and do not abuse the "sick day" policies of my firm.

A friend of mine does it all the time - at his work they listen to an 'oldie' radio station. One day Cliff Richard was on the radio, he went to his supervisor and said a relative that had now passed away loved Cliff and he was just too upset to carry on working and went home! Then had the following day off as well with the same excuse!
Another time, he'd been drinking alot the night before so he rang in and said the 'Cider Elves' wouldn't let him work today!
Amazingly, he still works there!!

I have actually made up an excuse so silly and elaborate that I forgot about it a couple of days later and dropped myself in it. I said I had to take my mother in laws three legged dog to some kennels cos it bit someone. Had a lovely day off. Next minute I'm chatting to my boss about what m-i-ls three legged dog has been up to, then I saw her face . Whoops.

Can't say that I've made up any excuses - just call in sick - even if it is a mental health day. But as for staying under the duvet - it's almost 80 here today - I'll skip that part and go sit by the pool!

However,,,I do understand where you coming from b/c I've been there and done that..And played my role better than Susan Lucci on my return...LOL!
If this is not the job you intend to work for the rest of your career,,use your days up till the fat lady sings

Go to work....There are many people who want your Job. If you feel that you need time off so you can play and then you lie about it what type of employee are you...Not to mention when you do take time off the only thing you are thinking of is work.Did my boss believe me? I should of gone. and before you know it your day is wasted with frustration..

only when i am work shy. It is a better way of earning money for doing nothing and better pay than the dole.
My colleagues do my share of the workload, so it is a perfect way to continue my career.

No. I only take time off work if I'm totally unable to go in. I have always been like that and I can't change now!

Other than Scheduled Vacation days or Holidays.......I have missed 3 days of work in the last 6 or 7 years...and I missed these days because I had surgery. That's one of the things wrong with young people today...they have no work ethic.
