I'm going to sound silly for saying this, and if you don't agree with me, that's fine. But here's my story.

There have been two or three times in my life that I have felt very depressed (once it got to the point where I wasn't eating much and lost about 10 pounds in a month). During those times, the books that kept me going were the "Harry Potter" series (only 1-4 were out at the time). They kept my imagination going and let me get outside of my own problems. I could focus on something else and still feel hopeful at the end of each one (which is one my favorite things about all the HPs).

I also have found that there is something very comforting and uplifting about reading books that you loved as a child. It helps you connect to your past and often has a message that you can carry with you long after you finish reading.

Anyway, I hope this has helped (at least a little).
