I make about 2,000 a month do you think i could afford $725 in rent, a 300/month car payment plus all the bills? (gas, electric, and water.) Plus gasoline and food? or is that cutting it to close?

Yeah, money will be pretty tight for you...

Just think, after rent, car, and bills, you'll only have about $500 to spend on food, gas, and entertainment.

Yeah you could. Just make sure you stick to a budget. I live on $2500 a month while saving and a rent of $900. Think of ways to save on grocery shopping, gas for your car, entertainment, and stuff like that. This will really save your budget. Also don't use that much power. Unplug everything that's not in use. Keep lights off whenever your not in the room. If it's an apartment you don't have to pay for water.

Check into what the bills are first...it can vary immensely.
(there is one apartment complex with 4-units where the gas bill alone could come to $1600 in one month during the winter = $400/unit). I've seen water bills from $10/mo to >$100/mo.

Food depends on what you do too -- a few years ago, I and my roommate spent about $35/week combined on groceries and hit McDonalds every other Friday night. Now for me a $200 trip to the grocery store isn't unheard of.

Only you know to what standards you do/can live with.

YOU can afford it, but you should not. You need to build your savings. Is $2,000 a month net or gross (before or after taxes)? You need to consider sharing an apartment or a house and save at lease $200 per month.

Are you stupid? Can you not do math?

2000 -725 = 1275.... 1275 - 300= 975

gas electric water are probably 350.... 975-350 = 625

food, telephone, car insurance gas for car ?? probably 700

answer is no

If $2,000 is net (after taxes) you can do it, but it won't leave much for leisure and fun.
If $2,000 is gross (before taxes), you'll be bankrupt by the end of the year.

Are you making $2000 per month after taxes? If so, you should be able to do it comfortably. If not, it's really tight.
