The first step most folks don't do is to check to make sure no one else out there is making/doing/creating something similar to what you are-if you have done that, and then determined that you are unique, go to the closet competitor of what you want to make or produce; pitch it to them first, and get their reaction-do tIhis with several competitors, without giving away the whole product or idea. If they want more, make them sign a non-compete agreement or a Confidentiality Agreement. Most folks with great ideas do not have enough know-how on how to set up a business, hire folks, get a building and prodution going, or really understand the expense and the risk of that expense. It may be better to license your idea and sell that license-like other brand do such as Nike, Lagerfeld, etc..

I believe you would need to get it patented. Without a patent anyone could steal it out from under you, and believe it or not there are lots of companies that sound like they mean well, but they do just that. Once you get a patent, it's tyme to go around to different manufacturers that make your type of item and sell it to them. This may mean filling out paperwork, but it is well worth it if you get your product out there.

Don't patent it using one of those stupid TV informercials...you should talk to some private investors, or find some people in the industry to help. Every product is different to get going.
Hope this helps mate.

Get a patent on it so that no one can steal your idea.
