I mean this kind of behavior makes absolutely no sense what so ever. You would think that people who are nice are more likely to have a lot of friends and be popular but the majority of the times that does not seem to be the case. If you think back to high school, who were the popular kids the mean, rude ones. And it still continues on in college, the workforce and places like the entertainment industry. I mean why.

One reason for this is that the rude ones have an authoritive air about them, and most people are followers, so they congregate to a leader.

Because people are widely raised that being physically attractive and wealthy is the best thing, and anything else is undesirable. If you possess one or both of those things, then you'll be liked by lots of shallow people because you fit into their perception of what a person should be. These people are often snotty and rude.
I used to be very sociable and now I don't like being around people anymore.

Because the mean people scare the other people into likeing them!

I was nice before people started taking advantage of me. Now, I struggle with cussing them out.
