McAfee wanted me to update to explorer 7, did,but it was corrupt, so I restored computer to previous day. Oh man, what a can of worms I have opened!
On the restore, McAfee said that files were missing or corrupt and needed to be restored. ok, I can deal with that, its happened before on a restore, wait a few days and it goes away. Not this time. I do several more restores to earlier dates, and the damned thing is still happening. Then I restore to day before yesterday - now several programs aren't working properly. I don't know what I did to the computer. I uninstalled McAfee, but that only made things worse. (now I wished I left well enough alone, but I didn't) Somehow I must have changed my preferences on web viewings or settings, because the games window here, if I click on it, I get to 'click here to open' or something like that, when I click, the IE windows all close. This happens on other things too. Help, what do I do? I can't uninstall IE, its not in Contol panel. HELP!

Your best bet it to completely wipe Mcafee, update to IE7, and then reinstall Mcafee.

Mcafee has a remal tool to completely cleanes out all remants and registry entries of their products. When you run it, you will see a DOS box pop up quickly, then go way. Wait 30 seconds - 1 minute, and you will see another DOS box pop up and you will see all the files/entries it is deleting.

The program is called MCPR.exe and is on the Mcafee site here:

First, make a backup of all your files and save them on to removable media, such as a DVD or external hard drive. Once you have backup everything, download McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool. McAfee software is notorious for being very difficult to remove. Even after uninstalling them, there are trace files left on a computer. It is not uncommon for these orphan files to cause trouble and cripple a computer, which is why McAfee developed their own removal tool. The download link is http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=71943

Read the instruction carefully and follow them to the letter. Beware, the removal tool will remove ALL McAfee software. So, if your computer has other McAfee software installed then this will remove them as well.

After removing the McAfee software, don't install IE 7 or make any other changes. Instead, just use your computer as you would normally and check to see if everything is working well. Once you are confident that things are normal, you can reinstall IE 7. Go to Start Menu > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Look on the right hand side of the windows, you should see "Add/Remove Windows Component." Click on the icon and select the component you want to remove (i.e. IE 6 or IE 7) > [Next] > [O.K.] > Reboot. To reinstall either IE 6 or IE 7, create a system restore point, download and install the program. You can download them at

2. IE 7 http://www.filehippo.com/download_internet_explorer/

Good luck.

It seems because of multiple restoration attempts, your Windows has become unstable, so I would suggest you to reinstall Windows to fix everything in one shot! Don't remove McAfee, antivirus is a must!
