My yellow cooking onions have sprouted. Can I plant these in a pot INDOORS and keep them as plants?

Yellow onions from grocery store plantable inside the house?

Well, I already put them in a pot last week. The sprouts went from 2 inches to over 12 inches.
My concern is whether or not they will rot beneath the soil, or possibly spread some nasty type of mold.

Sure, give them a try, but I'm not sure how well they'd fare without a grow lamp... Without a lamp, you could plant it in a pot for now, then transplant out in the garden in the spring. If you're in a mild climate, you could even plant it out in the garden now :)
