weight on the scale would be the load - deformation only occurs if something moves past it's normal point - stress is a measurement of the force that a load applies to an object

you apply a load to the scale which applies a stress to the 'beam' the deformation of the 'beam' allows you to calculate the load

and the word STRAIN is the deformation of a load by stress so you can work it in many ways - such as calling the 'beam' the strain gauge

all this is based on a scale that uses the deflection of a beam to measure ( you might want to buy a dictionary if you study engineering ) ( lol ) ( don't feel bad spell check doesn't even recognize gauge it wants the English gage - and you used guage ) ( LOL )
