I just reseted my modem and router on the first floor. The computer with the ethernal cable is working with the internet fine. My computer downstairs in the basement, is connected to a wireless router, and says that I have limited of no connectivity. I was about to call my internet supplier again, but I didn't want to embarrass myself. Anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?

Don't call your ISP, it has nothing to do with them. Refresh your network connection on your basement computer. If you don't know how, just restart it.

Edit:
Again, restart the computer. Restart the wireless router while your at it, but do that before you restart the computer..

Couple of things to look at. Check to see if your computer can detect the wireless signal and check the strength of the signal.
Control Panel --> Network/Internet Connections --> Network Connections --> Right Click on Wireless Network Connection --> Select Status. The Status panel should show if you are connected and what the signal strength is.

If the strength of the signal is good, then something else is blocking your access. If the signal strength is not good, then you are not close enough to the router.

Check your computer to see if it has been assigned an IP address. To do this: Start --> Run --> CMD

Once the Command window pops up: Type ipconfig and hit enter. Check to see if an ip address is displayed for your wireless adapter.

If you have good signal strength and an IP address, it is possible that you have security enabled on your router preventing your computer from accessing the internet. Get some support from your router provider via their website or live chat.

I have experienced this first hand. It is possible that your wireless router may need to be closer to your computer with the wireless network card. One thing I found that interferes with the signal is metal structures within your home. Also older fluorescent lights and fixtures can cause you to have a lower signal strength. Try moving your wireless router close to your PC with the wireless network card. You could maybe try plugging your wireless router into a different electrical outlet as it maybe experiencing low power due to a bad or nearly bad electrical outlet.

2 possiblities:

a. The router needs to be closer to the computer or

b. Try logging in to the router and changing the channel that it broacasts its wireless signal on..it probably is on 7 right now and I think there are 11 available. I have found that this helps a great deal.

good luck

First, you should take your wireless router upstairs to see if there is some obstruction of the wireless signal. If so, you might have to call a repairman to figure out what is wrong. If that does not work, then you will probably need to call your Internet provider.

hi

well this scenario occurs in two cases

1. you have made a secure connection and have entered a wrong WEP key.......just right click on the wireless icon on the system tray at the bottom right corner.......click view available networks........in the networks listed there highlight the one from your router and click connect.................it'll ask you for a WEP key just look under your router and you'll find the WEP key itz case sensitive so be careful in copying it on this computer....once you have done check whether you get a connection or not

2. your computer is not getting an IP address........... click START--> CONTROL PANEL--> NETWORK CONNECTIONS--> right click your WIRELESS AREA CONNECTION--> click DISABLE --> wait for two minutes--> right click on the icon again--> click ENABLE this will get you your ip address again

if these dont work do contact your ISP as this is one of the biggest call driver for them after page cannot be displayed !!!!!
