Well I actually think that its unapropriate for your boss to say that in those words. This indicates A personality statement. What your boss could have done (if its true) is say something like. Jenny, your work is great but Im not sure I approve of the way you treated Tom (example). anyway I would take a step back and watch myself and determine for myself if I really do come across as a mean person. Sometimes outher people see things in us that we cant.

I don't know what I would say out loud, but in my head I would say, what a mean person to say I'm a mean person. Actually I would say that is a very offensive thing to say, could we be more constructive with out criticism?

I would have ask why they thought that way and change myself to be a better person, or risk losing a job.

Review your behavior, perhaps they are right.
If you feel you were misunderstood, have a meeting and ask for clarification .
Tell them that you do not have mean intent.
