I went to see my OB for an appointment last Friday...that was while I was 33weeks and 3 days old. At that time when the nurse weighed me, I actually lost 3 pounds from my last checkup time. But then I asked the OB when she measured my belly to tell me how much my baby is weighing. She said almost between 4.5-4.75 pounds. I asked her if it was normal and she said it was a bit on the high side but that I have some weeks left until we can tell for sure how much this baby grows. Anyway I have another appointment tomorrow and that will put me at 34 weeks 3 days. How much as an estimate would my baby be in the next 5/6 weeks while i hopefully deliver the baby? Does he grow half a pound or a pound during the last few weeks? Could I be having a big baby or is it normal for him to be about 5 pounds now?

Estimates on the baby's weight by the Dr. are hardly accurate. Also, all babies don't grow at the same rate.

I am not sure what you mean...the nurse measured your belly and then gave you a weight for the baby? that by no means is possible...they would have to have done an ultrasound to do such a thing and that is still only an estimate. Babies in the last few weeks will gain around half a pound a week.

While pregnant with my oldest daughter at 32 weeks she was close to 5 pounds...when she was born she weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces....so not extremely large but a tad bit on the big side.

They say babies at where you are should grow half a pound a week, it's only a pound a week if you have gone by your due date. That doesn't sound like you have a very big baby. When I was 34 weeks my baby was around 4.5 pounds as well. Now he's almost 7 pounds and im 38 weeks today!!

theres not really a normal way to wiegh a baby that hasn't been born yet, they just compare you to others. they say that at about 30 weeks is when your baby starts to put on the most weight so really your baby could just be having a growth spurt now and stop growing by the time you get to the doctors ina couple weeks. you only really have 6 weeks left till you have the baby, maybe you'll have a 8 pound baby. nothing to be worried about. hey did you hear about the 15 pound baby that was recently born in mexico?? I don't think your baby will be that big anyways. ;)

I went through the same thing with my daughter.
At 32 weeks she had the measurements of a 36 week baby, and the sonographer had to go back through my notes to check that I was only 32 weeks gone...frightened me half to death, but then he told me that what had happened was that my daughter had had a growth spurt, and would spend the next few weeks slowing her growth down...she had an estimated weight of about 5lb when she was 32 weeks, so the sonographer said that she would weigh about 9lb, but she weighed 8lb 1.5oz at birth.

Relax. Your baby has probably just done the same thing mine did :)

I definetly agree with Molly. The dr can't honestly tell you how much the baby will weigh. I had one dr, at 35 weeks, tell me the baby was going to be 9 lbs. At my 38 week, it changed to 7-8 lbs.
There's no real way of knowing until the baby is actually out.
Don't worry!
