Scotter Libby is on trial for perjury and obstruction of justice. The same two charges Clinton was impeached for.
And the case against Libby is unraveling since the FBI agent "forgot" to record or write down Libby's statement. And now Russert is waffling.

To all those who claim this was all no big deal, kindly remember that in September 2003 the then-director of the CIA, George Tenet, referred the matter of the outing of Valerie Plame as a criminal case to the Justice Department.
If Plame wasn't covert, there would no need for such an official referral.
The confusion over who actually outed Plame appears to stem from the fact that her classified status was so widely discussed within Cheney's staff and spin team that it is indeed hard to track who first let the information out. The original crime was the PR campaign to discredit Wilson over exposing falsified intelligence on the Iraq war and then even allowing classified information like the role of Valerie Plame to enter in the spin discussion.
That being said, whether Plame was covert or not is irrelevant to LIbby's guilt. Libby obstructed justice and perjured himself in questioning relating to the investigation of Plame's outing. As we have seen over and over, often the coverup of the crime is worse than the underlying crime.

Sounds more like you don't understand all the issues very well. You need to do some more research on what happened, who said what to who, when and why.
BTW, what happened to Valerie Plame Wilson IS a big deal.

HUH? disclosing classified info is treason (actually, a capital crime during wartime). there was a crime committed by the VP but Libby is the smoke screen to deflect attention away from the real criminal. It's a tried and true method of the Bush admin., Libby is just one more in a long line of scapegoats for Republicans in the Whitehouse.

It is always illegal to make false statements to the Feds even if there ultimatly was no crime at the base. They got Martha Stewart mainly for lying.

perjury, i.e. lying under oath, is a serious offense regardless of whether the false statement was a "big deal" or not.
