A new study says Americans are the most overweight people on Earth, and they're continuing to gain weight.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 39 percent of Americans were obese in 2005. In comparison, only 2 percent of Chinese are obese, while 17 percent of Russians could stand to lose a bit of weight as well.

The Detroit News reports the obesity rate in the United States increased more than 10 percent from 2002 to 2005, according to the WHO. As recently as 1990, only 14 percent of Michigan residents were obese.
